In a positive development for dairy farmers across South Gujarat, Sumul Dairy has announced an upward revision in milk procurement prices for both cow and buffalo milk ahead of the upcoming Holi-Dhuleti festival. The decision is expected to directly benefit nearly 2.5 lakh cattle rearers spread across Surat and Tapi districts, providing a significant financial boost to rural households.

The festive season often brings higher demand for dairy products, and the cooperative’s latest move is seen as both a market-driven and farmer-friendly initiative. The revised pricing structure has been implemented with immediate effect.

Cow and Buffalo Milk Prices Increased : Under the new rates, the procurement price of cow milk has been increased by ₹20 per kg fat. The rate has moved up from ₹830 to ₹850 per kg fat. Similarly, the price of buffalo milk has been raised by ₹10 per kg fat, increasing from ₹870 to ₹880 per kg fat.

The hike reflects the cooperative’s commitment to ensuring fair returns to dairy farmers, particularly during a period of rising input costs such as cattle feed, veterinary care, and transportation.

₹50 Crore Additional Annual Income for Farmers : According to estimates shared by the dairy management, the revised rates are expected to generate an additional annual income of over ₹50 crore for cattle rearers in Surat and Tapi districts combined. On a monthly basis, farmers across the two districts are projected to collectively receive nearly ₹4 crore more than before.

This increase is likely to strengthen the rural economy by improving purchasing power and supporting agricultural and allied activities in the region. The cooperative dairy structure continues to play a crucial role in stabilizing incomes for thousands of small and marginal farmers.

Festive Cheer for Dairy Farmers : With Holi celebrations approaching, the announcement has been widely welcomed by farmers associated with various milk mandalis in the region. Many dairy producers have termed the price revision a timely festive boost, stating that it will help them manage household expenses and reinvest in their livestock operations.

The decision further reinforces the importance of cooperative dairies in supporting farmer welfare while maintaining steady milk supply to consumers. As demand for milk and milk-based products rises during the festive season, the enhanced procurement rates are expected to motivate farmers to maintain and increase production levels.

Overall, the price revision marks a positive step toward strengthening farmer incomes and sustaining growth in South Gujarat’s dairy sector.
