Duhok exports 45,000 tons of produce in September

The Duhok Directorate of Agriculture in Iraq reported that more than 45,000 tons of agricultural produce were exported from the governorate to central and southern Iraq during September.

Duhok is considered one of the Kurdistan Region’s key agricultural production areas, supplying large volumes of vegetables and fruits annually.

According to Ahmad Jamil, director general of agriculture in Duhok, exports in September included 26,791 tons of potatoes, 10,753 tons of onions, 1,665 tons of tomatoes, 5,746 tons of grapes, 921 tons of cucumbers, 37 tons of watermelons, 1 ton of figs, and 30 tons of beans.

From January 2 through the end of September 2025, total exports of agricultural products from Duhok governorate reached 209,391 tons to other Iraqi cities. The governorate produces a diverse range of crops, including pomegranates, figs, tomatoes, cucumbers, and sesame.

In the Akre district, around 250,000 fig trees are cultivated across 3,706 acres. Amedi district harvested over 120 tons of sesame in 2023. On the Nawkur Plain, potato production reaches approximately 450,000 tons annually, representing about 70 per cent of the Kurdistan Region’s total. In September, the governorate also hosted its 18th annual grape and honey festival under the slogan “Duhok, the source of domestic production.”
