McGraw Seafood Expands Redfish Processing Capacity with Carsoe’s Automated Production Line

McGraw Seafood expands redfish processing capacity with Carsoe’s automated production line, improving efficiency, yield, and seafood processing capabilities.

In 2025, McGraw Seafood partnered with Carsoe to install a fully automated redfish processing line at its New Brunswick facility, enhancing capacity while operating within a limited footprint. The project was designed to diversify production, safeguard product quality, and significantly reduce manual handling.

The turnkey installation, now complete, spans the full process from raw material receiving to automatic plate freezing. Central to the solution is Carsoe’s double-contact plate freezing technology combined with integrated downstream automation, all delivered within a tight seasonal timeframe. Nicolas Forget, Project Manager at McGraw Seafood, praised the execution, stating: “The installation was impeccable, the equipment is robust, and the team was fully committed to the project’s success.”

Planning and Design: Speed with Precision

Early project phases focused on accelerating decision-making and avoiding rework to meet strict deadlines. Weekly coordination meetings ensured strong alignment between teams as installation approached. According to Forget, the consultation process was efficient and collaborative, enabling clear communication and effective progress tracking. Despite the fast pace, precision remained uncompromised. The final installation closely matched the agreed specifications, requiring only standard fine-tuning during the stabilization phase. “What we expected is exactly what we received,” Forget confirmed.

Site Coordination and Delivery: Seamless Execution

Given the challenges of installing heavy equipment in an active facility, logistics planning was critical. Equipment delivery, crane operations, and staging were carefully coordinated to minimize downtime and speed up installation.

Construction Supervisor Bertin Losier highlighted the smooth delivery process: “All the equipment arrived together, and everything was well anticipated.” He also noted the high quality of the sea food machinery, emphasizing its importance for hygienic design and reliable automated handling. Carsoe’s installation engineers worked closely with McGraw’s technicians, operating as a single team to ensure a fast and clean handover. Losier commended the collaboration, describing the Carsoe team as “competent, respectful, and genuinely motivated to succeed.”

Results and Partnership: Strong Performance and Ongoing Support

Following commissioning, McGraw Seafood reported immediate operational benefits. With responsive on-site support from Carsoe’s engineers, operators quickly adapted to the new system, and early operational issues were resolved efficiently. Initial capacity targets have been met, and system reliability is progressing as expected. Capacity is satisfactory, and everything appears to be on track,” Forget said, adding that the equipment’s durability and consistent support from Carsoe were key strengths. He concluded by recommending Carsoe as a trusted partner for automation projects in Canada.
