Frozen shrimp remains the key growth driver as exports touch an all-time high in both value and volume.
NEW DELHI – India’s seafood exports achieved a record performance in FY 2025-26, reaching 19.72 lakh metric tonnes valued at ₹73,890 crore (US$ 8.46 billion), marking the highest-ever export volume and value for the sector. Frozen shrimp continued to be the largest contributor, driving growth across international markets.
According to the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), frozen shrimp accounted for more than two-thirds of total seafood export earnings, generating nearly ₹48,000 crore in export revenue. Shrimp shipments recorded growth in both volume and value, reinforcing India’s position as a leading global supplier of seafood products.
Despite a decline in exports to the United States due to tariff-related challenges, strong demand from China, the European Union and Southeast Asian countries helped offset losses. Exports to China and the EU registered significant double-digit growth, highlighting India’s success in diversifying its export markets.
