New value-added dairy facility in Nalanda aims to strengthen Sudha brand, increase farmer incomes and expand market reach
Bihar has taken a major step towards strengthening its dairy sector with the foundation stone of a modern 20 metric tonne per day (MTPD) curd and lassi processing plant at the Biharsharif Dairy Project in Nalanda. The new facility is expected to increase production of value-added dairy products, support milk producers, and enhance the market presence of the state’s leading dairy brand, Sudha.
The project is part of Bihar’s broader strategy to expand dairy infrastructure, improve milk processing capabilities, and create better income opportunities for farmers. By increasing value addition through products such as curd and lassi, the initiative aims to help dairy producers receive improved returns while meeting growing consumer demand for processed dairy products.
Developed under the Bihar State Milk Cooperative Federation (COMFED), the facility will strengthen the Sudha brand’s product portfolio and support its ambition to compete in wider domestic and international markets. The expansion aligns with efforts to modernise dairy processing, improve supply chains, and build a stronger cooperative dairy ecosystem in the state.
The new plant is expected to contribute to rural economic development by creating additional opportunities across milk procurement, processing, distribution, and retail networks. Along with the dairy facility, initiatives such as support for retailers and improved livestock services are being introduced to strengthen the overall dairy value chain.
Bihar is also targeting significant growth in milk production and dairy infrastructure by investing in modern technology, farmer support systems, and processing facilities. The expansion of value-added dairy production is expected to play an important role in increasing the state’s competitiveness in India’s growing dairy market.
With rising demand for products such as curd, lassi, and other processed dairy items, the new facility represents a significant move towards strengthening Bihar’s dairy industry, promoting rural prosperity, and building a globally recognised dairy brand from the state.
