Zimbabwe’s dairy industry has achieved a significant milestone, with raw milk production reaching approximately 155 million litres, substantially narrowing the country’s dairy supply gap and strengthening progress toward self-sufficiency. Increased domestic production has reduced reliance on imported dairy products while improving the availability of locally produced milk for processors and consumers.
The sector’s growth has been driven by continued investment in dairy farming, improved breeding programmes, better animal nutrition, and stronger collaboration between the government, dairy processors, and farmers. According to industry estimates, the increase in local milk production has significantly reduced the country’s dairy deficit, lowering import requirements and strengthening Zimbabwe’s food security.
