NewCold and Star Refrigeration Double Cold Storage Capacity at Corby Facility: Phase 2 of the expansion at NewCold’s state-of-the-art cold storage facility in Corby is now complete, effectively doubling its storage capacity with the seamless integration of cutting-edge refrigeration technology from Star Refrigeration.

The milestone marks a significant leap forward for NewCold, one of the UK’s most advanced automated high bay warehouses, with the addition of 2,750 kW of ammonia-based cooling capacity and 75,000 new pallet positions. This enhancement allows the facility to operate around the clock and scale sustainably to meet the increasing demands of the cold chain logistics sector.

Star Refrigeration was selected for its specialist expertise in ammonia refrigeration systems, particularly for high bay, automated environments. The successful completion of Phase 2 was made possible through close collaboration between both teams, ensuring that the site remained fully operational throughout the build—minimizing disruption and maximizing energy efficiency.

“The success of Phase 2 hinged on close collaboration, and Star Refrigeration brought deep technical expertise and a practical, safety-first mindset to the table,” said Richard Russell, Managing Director UK at NewCold. “Their seamless integration of new capacity has allowed us to operate more efficiently, sustainably, and reliably.”

As part of NewCold’s continued investment in infrastructure and innovation, Phase 3 is now underway, featuring the installation of an ammonia pump system to support an additional cold store on-site. The project reflects NewCold’s commitment to building future-proof, environmentally responsible facilities capable of supporting the food industry’s most demanding logistics needs.

Star Refrigeration remains proud to be a strategic partner in this journey, bringing advanced cooling technologies and engineering excellence to support NewCold’s long-term growth.
