American Seafood Partners Acquires Cal Marine in Major West Coast Expansion

The acquisition adds fishing vessels, cold-storage infrastructure and processing operations to ASP’s growing wild-caught seafood platform.

American Seafood Partners (ASP) has acquired California-based Cal Marine Fish Co., LLC, in a deal that expands the seafood group’s presence in West Coast fisheries and strengthens its position in the commercial squid market. The acquisition brings Cal Marine’s fishing fleet, cold-storage infrastructure and multi-species processing operations into ASP’s vertically integrated seafood business.

Based in Narragansett, Rhode Island, ASP was founded in 2023 and was formerly known as American Food Partners before rebranding in March 2026. The company focuses on wild-caught squid and operates a portfolio that includes Sea Fresh USA, Handrigan Seafoods and The Town Dock, which it acquired in March 2025.

Cal Marine is based in Los Angeles and operates as a West Coast squid-fishing and processing company. Its assets include fishing vessels, cold-storage facilities and processing operations located near important West Coast ports. The company supplies seafood to both domestic and international customers.

ASP said the acquisition will help create a coast-to-coast seafood platform by combining its East Coast processing and distribution capabilities with Cal Marine’s established harvesting operations on the Pacific coast. The company expects the expanded network to improve supply consistency and strengthen its ability to serve customers across the seafood market.

The deal also increases ASP’s access to West Coast squid resources. According to the company, Cal Marine lands a significant portion of the West Coast squid quota, making the acquisition an important step in expanding ASP’s role in the US foodservice squid market and international seafood trade.

The transaction follows a broader strategy by ASP to build an integrated seafood business covering harvesting, processing and distribution. By bringing fishing and processing assets under the same ownership structure, the company aims to strengthen control over supply and provide customers with a more consistent flow of seafood products.

The acquisition also received attention from the Port of Los Angeles, where Cal Marine will remain the tenant at its Terminal Island facility following the ownership transfer. The port’s June 2026 agenda recorded the proposed transfer of 100% equity ownership in Cal Marine to ASP Cal Marine Inc., a subsidiary of American Seafood Partners.

The purchase highlights continued consolidation and investment in the US seafood sector, particularly in businesses with access to wild-caught resources, processing capacity and established export channels. For ASP, the addition of Cal Marine is expected to support its ambition to expand across the domestic seafood supply chain while serving customers in the US and overseas.
