Cosmo Films introduces a BOPET lidding film with advanced anti-fog performance, enhancing visibility and shelf appeal in food packaging.

Cosmo Films has introduced a transparent anti-fog BOPET (PET) lidding film designed to address condensation issues commonly seen in chilled and cold-chain food packaging. Moisture buildup inside packs can reduce product visibility, shorten shelf life, and negatively influence consumer perception at retail, making effective fog control increasingly important for food brands.

The newly developed sealable, peelable film incorporates a specialised coating on the sealing side that prevents droplet formation and maintains clarity throughout storage and display. This helps ensure that packaged food remains clearly visible while also protecting product quality.

Engineered for both performance and convenience, the lidding film offers secure sealing along with easy peelability, supporting consumer-friendly opening. Its relatively low sealing temperature contributes to improved energy efficiency and allows compatibility with high-speed packaging operations.

The company reports that the film can help maintain internal pack conditions, potentially extending the freshness of products such as salads and vegetables by several days. It is also suitable for microwave use, making it applicable for ready-to-eat and prepared food categories.

The material works with multiple container substrates, including PP, PET (APET and CPET), LDPE, PVC, and HIPS. When paired with PET trays, the packaging structure can enter established plastic recycling streams, supporting recyclability goals.

Suggested applications include refrigerated and frozen foods, dairy products like yoghurt and butter, fresh-cut produce, prepared fruits, meat products, bakery items, and herbs. According to company representatives, improved pack visibility can strengthen consumer confidence and purchasing decisions, while the product also supports brand differentiation through enhanced packaging performance.

The launch comes amid growing industry focus on reducing food waste and improving supply chain efficiency. In related developments, companies such as Avery Dennison have highlighted the financial impact of food waste globally, while StePacPPC has been developing advanced humidity-control packaging solutions aimed at preserving fresh produce during transport and storage.
