13,000 sq. ft. Research, Design & Innovation facility brings together product development, packaging expertise, and consumer insights to create next-generation ice cream solutions for India and global markets.
The Magnum Ice Cream Company (TMICC) has strengthened its innovation capabilities in India with the inauguration of a new Research, Design & Innovation (RD&I) Centre in Whitefield, Bengaluru. The 13,000-square-foot facility is designed to accelerate consumer-led product development by bringing together expertise in ice cream science, culinary innovation, packaging design, consumer technical insights, and regulatory assessment under one roof.
Located in one of India’s leading technology and innovation hubs, the new centre leverages Bengaluru’s strong ecosystem of food science institutions, ingredient suppliers, research organisations, and start-ups. The company said the facility will serve as a strategic hub for developing products tailored to Indian consumer preferences while also contributing to innovation across its global ice cream portfolio.
The RD&I Centre houses a state-of-the-art laboratory and a digitally enabled pilot plant, enabling researchers to rapidly prototype, test, and refine new recipes, manufacturing processes, and packaging concepts. The integrated setup is expected to shorten product development cycles and improve collaboration between scientists, engineers, chefs, and packaging specialists.
The facility will support innovation across several of the company’s flagship brands, including Kwality Wall’s, Magnum, Cornetto, Carte D’Or, Feast, and Twister. In addition to creating new flavours and formats, the centre will focus on improving product quality, packaging functionality, sustainability, and consumer experience to meet evolving market expectations.
According to TMICC, the Bengaluru centre reflects the growing importance of India within the company’s global innovation strategy. By combining scientific research with consumer insights and culinary expertise, the company aims to develop products that respond more quickly to changing tastes, local consumption occasions, and emerging food trends.
The new RD&I facility complements the company’s global network of 12 Research, Design & Innovation centres, where multidisciplinary teams work on product formulation, process optimisation, packaging development, food safety, and manufacturing technologies. The investment reinforces TMICC’s commitment to strengthening its research infrastructure and accelerating innovation across international markets.
The opening of the Bengaluru centre follows a series of strategic investments by The Magnum Ice Cream Company in India, including manufacturing expansion and the strengthening of its local business operations. With enhanced research capabilities now in place, the company aims to drive the next generation of premium ice cream innovations while supporting long-term growth in one of the world’s fastest-growing frozen dessert markets.
