The September 11 event will bring together dairy stakeholders to promote women-led enterprises, modern livestock practices and stronger rural incomes.
Uttar Pradesh is set to host a dairy conclave in Jhansi on September 11 as part of its broader efforts to strengthen the dairy sector and increase women’s participation in the rural economy. The initiative is intended to connect farmers, livestock rearers, self-help groups and other stakeholders with dairy-development opportunities.
The conclave is part of a wider statewide programme aimed at modernising dairy production, improving awareness of government schemes and encouraging scientific livestock management. District-level Dairy Conclave 2026 events were organised across all 75 districts on August 5, bringing together milk producers, dairy committees, self-help groups, officials and sector experts.
The Jhansi event is expected to place particular emphasis on the role of women in dairy farming and rural enterprise. Dairy activities can provide women with opportunities to participate in milk production, procurement, processing and marketing, helping them move beyond unpaid family labour and gain greater access to income and economic decision-making.
Uttar Pradesh already has examples of women-led dairy businesses contributing to the rural economy. Women’s self-help groups across 31 districts and more than 6,000 villages have been involved in milk procurement, processing and marketing. These groups collectively collect around 10 lakh litres of milk daily and have been associated with dairy business worth approximately ₹5,000 crore.
The state is also developing women-led Milk Producer Companies in different regions. Balini Milk Producer Company operates across several Bundelkhand districts, including Jhansi, while other producer companies are active in Purvanchal, the Gorakhpur region and the Terai belt. These organisations are helping women participate more directly in the dairy value chain.
The conclave will also support the state’s wider dairy-development agenda, which includes improving milk production, strengthening cooperatives, promoting indigenous cattle and expanding access to government assistance. The Nand Baba Dugdh Mission and related dairy schemes are intended to support livestock development and improve opportunities for milk-producing farmers.
Modern dairy technology, scientific animal management, fodder planning, disease prevention and livestock vaccination are among the areas covered by the state’s dairy-conclave programme. These measures are intended to improve productivity and help farmers make better use of available resources.
The initiative comes as Uttar Pradesh continues to position dairy farming as an important driver of rural economic development. By combining technical support, cooperative participation and women-led enterprise, the state aims to strengthen the dairy value chain while creating more opportunities for rural households.
The Jhansi conclave is therefore expected to serve as a platform for discussing how dairy development can support both agricultural growth and women’s economic empowerment. Greater participation in organised milk production and marketing could help rural women gain stronger ownership of their work and a more visible role in the state’s dairy economy.
