PRO-S is Bunge’s in-house certification framework, applicable across all commodities the company sources and exclusively marketed by Bunge. The program relies on independent third-party audits to confirm that plant-based ingredients meet strict sustainability criteria. These include legal compliance, prevention of deforestation, mitigation of environmental impacts, and adherence to strong social responsibility practices throughout the supply chain.
According to Bunge, ASC’s recognition validates the robustness of PRO-S standards and is expected to further strengthen demand for its feed ingredients—particularly soymeal—within the global fish feed market. The approval provides Bunge with a clear competitive advantage by aligning its offerings with the growing sustainability requirements of aquaculture producers.
Michel Santos, Senior Director of Sustainability for Grains & Oils Global Platforms at Bunge, noted that the ASC approval positions PRO-S as a key market differentiator. First launched in 2012 and continuously enhanced over the years, PRO-S previously received early endorsement from the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation (FEFAC). That recognition helped drive steady sales growth across major European markets from 2017 onward, laying the foundation for broader global adoption following the latest ASC approval.
