Goa Cuts Vegetable Imports by 40%, Begins Exporting 20% of Produce: CM Pramod Sawant: In a significant development for the state’s agricultural sector, Goa has reduced its dependence on imported vegetables by 40% and has begun exporting 20% of its locally grown produce, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant announced.

Speaking at a public event, the Chief Minister highlighted the strides made by the state in boosting local farming and self-sufficiency in vegetable production. “Goa is no longer fully dependent on imports for its vegetable supply. We’ve successfully cut down imports by 40%, and today, 20% of our vegetables are being exported,” Sawant said.

He credited the achievement to the concerted efforts of local farmers, state-supported agricultural initiatives, and improved market access for Goan produce. The move is seen as a step forward in achieving agricultural sustainability and economic empowerment for rural communities.

Officials from the Agriculture Department confirmed that enhanced cultivation techniques, government incentives, and better irrigation infrastructure have played a crucial role in increasing production and improving the quality of vegetables grown in the state. The announcement marks a turning point for Goa’s agricultural economy, which has traditionally relied heavily on imports from neighbouring states to meet local demand.
