Indonesia’s frozen durian officially enters the Chinese market through Qinzhou Port, boosting bilateral agri-trade and the frozen fruit supply chain.
Approximately 48 tons of Indonesia’s frozen durian products have officially entered the Chinese market and are being distributed directly through Qinzhou Port, the Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) stated. In a statement in Jakarta, Sahat Manaor Panggabean said the inaugural shipment was dispatched on December 15, 2025, and arrived at Qinzhou Port on January 6, 2026, after being declared compliant with all customs requirements and quarantine standards.
“The acceptance of Indonesian frozen durian in China proves that the national quarantine system has been recognized and trusted to ensure product health and quality standards in accordance with international requirements,” he said. Panggabean noted that the acceptance of the frozen durian shipment represents the implementation of the frozen durian export quarantine protocol that has been officially agreed upon by the authorities of Indonesia and China through technical consultations and bilateral cooperation over the past several years.
Market confidence in China, he added, has been built through the implementation of a full traceability system from upstream to downstream, covering plantations, processing, and shipment, to ensure food safety, plant health, and product quality. The initial acceptance of Indonesian frozen durian also supports the development of the China-ASEAN Fruit Trading Center as a major logistics hub for fruit trade in Southeast Asia, equipped with integrated customs and inspection facilities.
In 2025, Qinzhou Port operated 44 shipping routes to ASEAN countries, including Indonesia, as part of China’s New Western Land-Sea Corridor. With the planned opening of the Pinglu Canal in 2026, Qinzhou Port is projected to become a strategic maritime gateway for southwestern China, capable of reducing logistics costs for ASEAN agricultural products by up to 30 percent. Panggabean added that this frozen durian export achievement serves as a foundation for expanding market access for other Indonesian agricultural products.
“This achievement provides a strong foundation for expanding exports of other Indonesian agricultural products, supported by a strong quarantine system and sustainable international cooperation,” he added.
