Nissui to Launch Three Microwave-Ready Frozen Fish Dishes in Japan

Nissui plans to launch three microwave-ready frozen fish dishes in Japan, expanding its convenient and value-added frozen seafood portfolio.

Japan-based Nissui Corporation has announced the nationwide launch of three new microwave-ready frozen fish dishes under its “Today’s Side Dish” range. According to the company’s Tokyo statement, the products will be available across Japan from March 1, 2026, as part of its Spring–Summer product rollout. The launch highlights Nissui’s continued focus on expanding convenient, ready-to-eat seafood options for modern consumers.

The new lineup includes grilled salt mackerel, Kyoto-style Saikyo grilled sawara, and fried horse mackerel with plum and shiso sauce. All three dishes are fully cooked and designed for quick microwave reheating, allowing consumers to enjoy fish dishes at home without the time, effort, or mess associated with traditional preparation.

Nissui said the products are tailored to changing lifestyles in Japan, particularly the rise in dual-income and single-person households. While fish remains an important part of the Japanese diet due to its health benefits, many consumers avoid cooking it at home because of long preparation times, strong odors, portion management, and food waste concerns.

The grilled salt mackerel is seasoned with shio koji and Awaji Island seaweed salt and grilled to achieve a lightly crisp exterior with a moist interior. The Saikyo-style grilled sawara is marinated overnight in a Kyoto-inspired blend of white miso, mirin, sake, sugar, soy sauce, and shio koji, offering a mild sweetness and refined flavor. Both products use Nissui’s proprietary Fluffy Marinating Technique to retain moisture and taste even after freezing and reheating.

The fried horse mackerel provides a contrasting texture, featuring a specially developed batter and breadcrumbs, paired with a refreshing ume plum and shiso sauce. Each item is packaged as a single-serve side dish, ideal for pairing with rice or other staples. Nissui said the expanded lineup reflects its commitment to meeting evolving eating habits while delivering familiar, traditional Japanese flavors in a convenient, ready-to-heat format.
