West Bengal has inaugurated a 1.5 lakh litre per day dairy processing facility in Nadia. The plant aims to enhance milk processing, support farmer incomes, and boost rural employment.

West Bengal has taken a significant step towards improving its dairy industry by commissioning a new state-of-the-art milk processing plant in Nadia. This facility, branded under ‘Banglar Dairy’, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and represents a strategic investment in the region’s dairy infrastructure.

The new plant has a processing capacity of 1.5 lakh (150,000) litres per day, designed to handle the surplus milk produced by local cooperatives. The plant aims to meet urban demand with high hygiene standards and stabilize consumer prices by providing a reliable processing hub for the district’s dairy output.

A key objective of this initiative is to elevate the socio-economic status of rural producers. It is expected to directly benefit thousands of dairy farmers by offering a steady and transparent market for their raw milk. Officials highlighted that the plant would help ensure ‘fair prices’ for farmers, eliminating the need for middlemen and increasing profits for rural families and smallholders.

The Banglar Dairy expansion also focuses on creating job opportunities, both direct and indirect, ranging from technical operations and quality control to logistics and distribution. This aligns with regional development goals, using industrial growth as a means to secure local livelihoods and provide vocational training in the agribusiness sector.

This new facility is part of a series of upgrades to the state’s dairy infrastructure, reflecting the government’s commitment to food security and industrial modernization. Such developments are aimed at ensuring the resilience of West Bengal’s dairy sector in the competitive national economy.
