Cargill India launches a US$36M dairy feed plant to expand production capacity and strengthen India’s livestock nutrition sector.
Cargill has announced plans to establish a new dairy feed manufacturing facility near Wazirabad with an investment of approximately US$36 million (₹300 crore). The project is designed to strengthen feed production capacity and provide enhanced support to dairy farmers across several regions.
The upcoming plant will have an annual production capability of about 4 lakh tonnes, marking a substantial expansion of the company’s presence in India’s dairy feed segment. This development will complement Cargill’s existing feed manufacturing unit in Bhatinda, which is currently operating at full utilization.
Ravinder Balain, Country President of Cargill India, stated that the investment reflects the company’s continued confidence in India’s dairy industry. The sector is witnessing steady growth driven by rising household incomes, growing dairy consumption, and sustained strength in milk production.
India continues to hold its position as the world’s leading milk producer, with production approaching 239 million metric tonnes during 2023–24. The country’s animal nutrition industry is also expected to see consistent expansion in the coming years.
According to the company, the new facility will enhance feed availability, ease regional supply challenges, and help dairy farmers improve livestock nutrition and milk yield. The project is expected to generate nearly 1,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities across manufacturing, transportation, and related services.
Beyond manufacturing expansion, Cargill is collaborating with dairy producers to implement digital farm management systems and research-driven nutritional programs aimed at improving herd health and operational efficiency. These efforts align with the company’s broader strategy to strengthen productivity and resilience within India’s dairy value chain.
The addition of a second dairy feed plant underscores the increasing role of high-quality animal feed in supporting India’s expanding dairy economy. As milk production continues to rise, access to scientifically formulated, locally produced feed is becoming essential for farmer profitability and sustainable sector growth.
In a separate development, Cargill expanded its micronutrition production capabilities in Austria in 2025. The company completed a major upgrade at its Engerwitzdorf facility, boosting output capacity by 50% to address rising international demand for advanced micronutrient solutions.
Following the expansion, the facility can now produce up to 30,000 metric tonnes annually. This volume is sufficient to fortify approximately 200 million metric tonnes of feed, representing a major milestone for the company’s Micronutrition & Health Solutions operations. The investment highlights Cargill’s continued focus on innovation, sustainability, and delivering value to customers in the evolving global animal nutrition market.
