New initiative aims to create better income opportunities for goat farmers while expanding Bihar’s value-added dairy ecosystem
Bihar’s leading dairy brand Sudha Dairy is set to introduce goat milk at its milk booths across the state, creating new market opportunities for goat farmers and expanding the range of dairy products available to consumers. The initiative aims to promote goat farming as a profitable rural livelihood option while strengthening the state’s livestock sector.
Under the planned programme, a dedicated goat federation will be established within two months to organise goat farmers at district, block and village levels. The federation will support farmers through better coordination, training, milk collection systems and marketing assistance, helping them connect directly with organised dairy channels.
The goat milk will be made available to consumers in convenient 200 ml and 500 ml packs through Sudha Dairy outlets. The move is expected to improve access to goat milk products while creating an additional source of income for rural households involved in goat rearing.
The initiative is part of Bihar’s broader strategy to strengthen the dairy and livestock sector by encouraging value-added products and improving farmer participation in organised markets. Sudha Dairy, operated by the Bihar State Milk Cooperative Federation (COMFED), has been expanding its product portfolio and market reach through new dairy offerings.
Goat farming has significant potential in rural areas due to lower entry barriers and growing consumer interest in alternative dairy products. By connecting goat farmers with a structured supply chain, the initiative can help improve price realisation, increase employment opportunities and support rural economic development.
The launch of goat milk through Sudha Dairy booths represents another step towards diversifying Bihar’s dairy sector and building stronger links between livestock farmers and consumers. With increasing demand for nutritious and specialised dairy products, the initiative could open new growth opportunities for Bihar’s livestock industry.
