Joint Committee Meeting focuses on expanding bilateral trade, agricultural collaboration, food security initiatives, and regional connectivity to support Afghanistan’s economic development.
India and Afghanistan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, agriculture, food security, and regional connectivity during the 4th India-Afghanistan Joint Committee Meeting held in New Delhi. The discussions, led by officials from both countries, reviewed the progress of their development partnership and identified new opportunities to deepen economic engagement.
A key outcome of the meeting was the decision to enhance collaboration in the agriculture sector through the establishment of a Joint Working Group, which will prepare a long-term roadmap for agricultural cooperation. The initiative is expected to promote knowledge sharing, improve farming practices, strengthen food security, and support capacity building in Afghanistan’s agriculture sector.
Both sides also discussed measures to expand bilateral trade by improving market access, facilitating the movement of agricultural commodities, and strengthening supply chain connectivity. The talks emphasized the importance of developing reliable transport and logistics networks to boost commerce and support Afghanistan’s economic recovery.
India reiterated its continued commitment to supporting the welfare and development of the Afghan people through humanitarian assistance and development projects. Afghanistan acknowledged India’s sustained support in areas such as food security, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and capacity building, describing it as an important pillar of the bilateral relationship.
The meeting also explored ways to improve regional connectivity, recognizing its critical role in facilitating trade and economic integration. Enhanced connectivity initiatives are expected to provide Afghanistan with greater access to regional markets while strengthening commercial ties between South and Central Asia.
Officials from both countries agreed to maintain regular engagement through institutional mechanisms to accelerate cooperation across priority sectors. The proposed agricultural roadmap and continued dialogue on trade and connectivity are expected to inject fresh momentum into the bilateral partnership while creating new opportunities for businesses and farmers in both nations.
The latest discussions underscore the shared commitment of India and Afghanistan to expanding economic cooperation through stronger trade links, agricultural development, and improved connectivity. By reinforcing collaboration in these strategic sectors, both countries aim to promote sustainable growth, enhance food security, and strengthen long-term regional economic integration.
