New BIS Type-I cattle feed is designed to improve nutrition, milk yield, and animal health while supporting scientific dairy farming across Assam.
Purabi Dairy, operated by the West Assam Milk Producers’ Cooperative Union Limited (WAMUL), has introduced ‘Purabi Dana Supreme’, a premium cattle feed developed to improve milk productivity, animal health, and scientific dairy farming practices across Assam. The launch marks another step in the cooperative’s efforts to enhance dairy farmer livelihoods through improved livestock nutrition and technical support.
Launched under the Purabi Pashu Pushti brand, the new feed has been formulated in accordance with BIS Type-I specifications and contains higher levels of crude protein and crude fat, along with essential vitamins and minerals. It is specifically designed to meet the nutritional requirements of high-yielding dairy cattle, including Holstein Friesian, Jersey, and Gir breeds, helping farmers improve milk yield and maintain healthier animals.
The product was unveiled during a farmer outreach programme at Khorisala in Assam’s Barpeta district, attended by more than 250 dairy farmers, veterinary officials, and cooperative representatives. Alongside the launch, Purabi Dairy also organised a free animal health camp where veterinary experts provided guidance on scientific herd management, disease prevention, and improved feeding practices.
According to WAMUL Managing Director Sameer Kumar Parida, the premium feed has been developed to support the evolving nutritional needs of modern dairy farming while strengthening the dairy cooperative movement through quality products, technical guidance, and field-level services. The initiative is expected to help farmers enhance productivity, improve cattle health, and increase their incomes.
Purabi Dairy, managed by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), has significantly expanded its dairy cooperative network over the years. The organisation now supports nearly 60,000 dairy farmers through 1,340 dairy cooperative societies spread across more than 2,500 villages in Assam, making it one of the largest dairy cooperative networks in Northeast India.
The premium cattle feed is manufactured at WAMUL’s ISO 9001:2015-certified cattle feed plant in Changsari, Kamrup district. Since recommissioning the facility in 2022, the cooperative has supplied around 23,000 metric tonnes of cattle feed and 175 metric tonnes of mineral mixture to member farmers at subsidised rates. The newly launched Purabi Dana Supreme, priced at ₹1,075 per 25-kg bag, will be made available to WAMUL dairy farmers at a subsidised price of ₹755 per bag, encouraging wider adoption of scientific feeding practices.
The launch reflects Purabi Dairy’s broader strategy of strengthening Assam’s dairy sector through improved livestock nutrition, modern production practices, and farmer-centric initiatives. By providing access to high-quality feed and veterinary support, the cooperative aims to improve milk productivity, promote sustainable dairy farming, and enhance the long-term economic well-being of dairy producers across the state.
