GI-Tagged Rewa Sundarja Mangoes Make Export Debut in UAE with APEDA Support
One-tonne shipment of Madhya Pradesh’s premium GI-certified mangoes marks a milestone in promoting India’s regional fruit exports and boosting farmer incomes.

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has facilitated the first commercial export of GI-tagged Rewa Sundarja mangoes from Madhya Pradesh to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking a major milestone in promoting India’s unique agricultural products in international markets. The inaugural consignment, weighing one metric tonne, was exported on 26 June 2026 by Salt Range Foods Pvt. Ltd., opening new export opportunities for the region’s renowned mango variety.

Rewa Sundarja mangoes, which have received Geographical Indication (GI) status, are celebrated for their exceptional sweetness, rich aroma, fibreless pulp, and distinctive flavour. The GI certification helps establish the fruit’s unique identity, protecting its origin while enhancing its appeal in premium international markets.

The export consignment was sourced from Seondha Farmer Producer Company Limited and progressive farmer Sonu Gupta from Govindgarh in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district. After harvesting, the mangoes underwent grading, sorting, and export-quality packaging at an APEDA-supported pack house operated by Trisagar Farmer Producer Company in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh. Following phytosanitary inspections and export compliance procedures, the consignment was air-shipped to the UAE via Varanasi Airport.

The commercial export is expected to deliver significant economic benefits to mango growers in the Rewa region. While the prevailing local market price for Rewa Sundarja mangoes ranges between ₹100 and ₹110 per kilogram, the exporter procured the fruit at ₹150 per kilogram, offering farmers a premium of ₹40–50 per kilogram. This price incentive is expected to encourage growers to adopt export-oriented cultivation and post-harvest practices that meet international quality standards.

APEDA has been actively promoting India’s GI-tagged agricultural products to enhance their global recognition and expand export markets. The successful shipment of Rewa Sundarja mangoes demonstrates the growing international demand for India’s premium horticultural produce while highlighting the importance of quality infrastructure, farmer producer organisations, and export facilitation in strengthening agricultural trade.

The initiative also reinforces Madhya Pradesh’s emergence as a producer of high-value horticultural products with export potential. By connecting regional farmers with international buyers, APEDA aims to improve rural incomes, encourage value addition, and diversify India’s fresh fruit export portfolio.

As demand for premium Indian mango varieties continues to grow in overseas markets, the first commercial export of GI-tagged Rewa Sundarja mangoes is expected to pave the way for regular shipments in future seasons, strengthening India’s position as a leading exporter of high-quality fresh fruits.
