New dairy complex in Howrah will process 30 lakh litres of milk daily, create employment, and benefit over 1.25 lakh dairy farmers while expanding value-added dairy production.
Amul has launched its ₹700 crore Amul Bengal Dairy Project at Howrah Food Park, West Bengal, marking one of the largest investments in the state’s dairy sector. The integrated dairy complex is expected to significantly expand milk processing capacity, strengthen value-added dairy manufacturing, and support the growth of the cooperative dairy ecosystem in eastern India.
Once operational, the facility will be capable of processing 30 lakh litres of milk per day and producing 10 lakh kilograms of curd and other cultured dairy products daily, making it the world’s largest curd production plant. The project will also manufacture a wide range of dairy products, including packaged milk, UHT milk, ice cream, paneer, ghee, sweets, and flavoured milk, strengthening Amul’s presence in the eastern Indian market.
The project is expected to directly benefit more than 1.25 lakh milk-producing farmers in West Bengal, including over 30,000 women dairy producers, by expanding milk procurement and providing improved market access through Amul’s cooperative network. The new dairy complex is also projected to create around 1,000 direct employment opportunities, contributing to regional economic development.
Designed as a fully integrated dairy processing hub, the facility will strengthen the state’s dairy infrastructure by increasing production efficiency, supporting value addition, and improving cold-chain and processing capabilities. The investment aligns with the Government of India’s White Revolution 2.0 initiative, aimed at enhancing dairy production, farmer incomes, and cooperative-led growth across the country.
The Amul Bengal Dairy Project also reinforces West Bengal’s position as an emerging destination for food processing investments. By expanding high-capacity dairy manufacturing and increasing the availability of value-added dairy products, the project is expected to boost regional food processing, strengthen supply chains, and enhance the competitiveness of India’s dairy industry in domestic and international markets.
