Arla Foods Expands Dairy Production Capabilities in Nigeria

Arla Foods is intensifying efforts to enhance dairy production in Nigeria. The company aims to produce half of its milk locally, reflecting a significant shift from imports to local production, supported by innovations like the newly commissioned yoghurt factory.

Arla Foods has announced plans to bolster its dairy production in Nigeria, aiming to produce 50% of its milk locally. This marks a strategic move to reduce reliance on imports and strengthen local dairy capabilities. The 2025 Arla-Dano Farm Open Day showcased several innovations, including the commissioning of a new yoghurt factory utilizing 100% fresh milk sourced directly from the farm.

The Arla-Dano Farm is described as a state-of-the-art facility, unique not only in Nigeria but also in West Africa. It features advanced cow monitoring systems, solar-powered milk cooling systems, and optimal animal welfare practices. The farm currently achieves a milk yield of 30 kg per cow per day, with plans to increase this to 35 kg.

Arla’s initiatives extend beyond the farm itself, with the establishment of the Nigerian Dairy Centre of Excellence. This center aims to professionalize dairy farming through training and research, contributing to the development of a sustainable dairy sector in Nigeria.

The collaboration with the Federal and Kaduna State Governments has been crucial in Arla’s success, providing infrastructure and regulatory support. These partnerships have enhanced the local dairy value chain and contributed to food security and economic empowerment.

Additionally, Arla’s commitment to sustainability is evident in its use of solar panels and efficient resource management at the farm. The company’s efforts aim to create a thriving dairy industry that supports local communities and reduces Nigeria’s dependency on dairy imports.
