Andhra Pradesh has reaffirmed its position as India’s leading egg-producing state, highlighting the continued strength of its poultry industry and its vital contribution to the country’s food and nutrition ecosystem. The state remains a dominant force in egg production, accounting for a significant share of the nation’s total output and supplying eggs to several domestic and international markets.
According to data from the Animal Husbandry Department, Andhra Pradesh continues to lead the country in egg production, driven by its well-developed poultry infrastructure, large-scale commercial farms, and strong support ecosystem for producers. State officials noted that the poultry sector plays a crucial role in rural livelihoods, employment generation, and agricultural growth.
The state’s poultry industry has evolved into one of the most efficient in India, benefiting from modern farming practices, improved bird genetics, better feed management, and advanced disease-control measures. These factors have helped farmers maintain high productivity levels and meet growing demand from consumers across the country.
Industry experts point out that Andhra Pradesh produces several crores of eggs every day, with a substantial portion transported to other Indian states and export destinations. The state contributes approximately 17–20 percent of India’s total egg production, reinforcing its importance in ensuring a stable supply of affordable protein.
The poultry sector has also become a major economic driver for the state. Thousands of farmers, feed manufacturers, hatcheries, transport operators, and allied businesses depend on the industry for their livelihoods. Despite its production success, industry stakeholders have emphasized the need to increase egg consumption levels within the state and across India. Higher consumption would help stabilize market prices, improve farmer profitability, and strengthen nutritional outcomes, particularly among children and vulnerable populations. Government welfare schemes and school nutrition programmes continue to play an important role in promoting egg consumption.
