Demand for Indigenous Cow Milk from Uttar Pradesh Rises Across India and Defence Sector
The demand for milk and dairy products sourced from indigenous cow breeds in Uttar Pradesh is witnessing significant growth across India, including increasing consumption within the Indian Army, according to an official statement issued by the state government.

Known for their high protein and calcium content, dairy products derived from indigenous cow breeds are gaining popularity among health-conscious and fitness-focused consumers. Officials stated that the growing preference for natural and nutrient-rich dairy products has strengthened market demand in major metropolitan cities such as Chennai, Bengaluru, and Mumbai.

The statement added that milk from indigenous cows bred in Uttar Pradesh is now being supplied to customers nationwide through online platforms including Amazon, helping expand the reach of the state’s premium dairy segment.

Mukesh Meshram, Additional Chief Secretary of the Animal Husbandry Department, said the Uttar Pradesh government is undertaking extensive efforts to preserve and promote advanced indigenous cattle breeds through scientific breeding and modern dairy management practices.

The government also highlighted the work of engineer S.N. Dwivedi from Prayagraj, who has developed a successful indigenous cow-based dairy model in Noida by combining modern dairy operations with cattle conservation initiatives. Officials described the project as an example of how indigenous cattle farming can contribute to both rural employment and economic development.

According to the statement, milk produced from indigenous cow breeds is widely regarded as beneficial for improving immunity, boosting energy levels, and supporting muscle strength. Increasing consumer awareness regarding nutritional benefits and improved processing standards has further enhanced confidence in the quality and purity of these dairy products.

The Uttar Pradesh government stated that, for the first time in the state, advanced dairy technologies from countries such as Iceland and Denmark have been integrated into milk production and processing systems. These technologies are aimed at maintaining hygiene, preserving nutritional value, and improving overall dairy quality.

Officials added that the state’s indigenous cow-based dairy model has gained national recognition due to the expansion of modern cowsheds, adoption of advanced dairy infrastructure, and increased use of online marketing channels.

With rising demand from institutional buyers, urban consumers, and e-commerce platforms, Uttar Pradesh is steadily strengthening its position in India’s premium dairy market while promoting sustainable livestock development and indigenous cattle conservation.
