North Kazakhstan Strengthens Position as Dairy Production Leader
North Kazakhstan Region has strengthened its position as the country’s leading dairy-producing and processing hub, driven by significant investments in modern farming, milk processing infrastructure, and value-added dairy production.

The region continues to play a key role in supporting Kazakhstan’s efforts to enhance food security, reduce import dependence, and expand dairy exports.

The region accounts for a substantial share of Kazakhstan’s milk output and has witnessed steady growth in dairy processing capacity in recent years. Government support programs, investments in advanced dairy farms, and the adoption of modern production technologies have helped improve productivity and milk quality across the region.

A major milestone in the region’s development has been the launch of new high-tech processing facilities capable of producing a wide range of dairy products, including cheese, butter, condensed milk, fermented dairy products, and packaged milk. These investments are expected to strengthen domestic supply chains while creating new opportunities for exports to neighboring markets.

Kazakhstan’s broader dairy sector is also experiencing strong growth. Recent industry data show a sharp increase in cheese and cottage cheese production, reflecting rising consumer demand and expanding processing capabilities. At the same time, imports of certain dairy products have declined, indicating growing self-sufficiency within the country.

The development of the dairy industry is being supported by ongoing investments in livestock genetics and herd improvement programs. Kazakhstan has recently expanded imports of high-quality breeding cattle to increase milk yields and improve farm efficiency, further strengthening the long-term competitiveness of the sector.

Industry stakeholders view North Kazakhstan’s success as a model for the country’s agricultural modernization efforts. With continued investment in processing infrastructure, advanced farming practices, and export-oriented production, the region is expected to remain a key driver of growth in Kazakhstan’s dairy industry.
